OAKWORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
January 2010 - No. 3
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year. I hope you had a relaxing Christmas and are coping with the wintry weather. May I take this opportunity to congratulate Miss Saxton on her marriage over the holidays. She has returned to school with the new name of Mrs Horton!
As usual we have lots of exciting events planned for this term. Many of them as listed on the back of this newsletter however, please keep checking your child’s book bag for additional letters.
NEW WEBSITE
We are presently in the process of redesigning our website to make it more user friendly. The new website will contain information about the school as well as a direct link to the Moodle Learning Platform. We are hoping to get a lot more information on the website, in terms of
My email is flidstone@oakworth.ngfl.ac.uk
ADVERSE WEATHER
Unfortunately we have already had our first two snow closure days this term. I do apologise for any inconvenience this caused for parents however, the decision was made in terms of health and safety and the number of staff who were unable to get into school.
If you are in doubt as to if school is closed please first look on the schools website, any information regarding closure will be placed on there within
minutes of the decision to close being made. We will also contact The Pulse Radio and Radio Leeds to make an announcement .
CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES
Thank you to all the parents and children who attended our Christmas Fayre. We had several comments from parents last year saying it was too crowded in the hall, as a result this year we tried to increase the number of activities and spread them out across school to ease congestion. It did seem to work better and I would be interested to hear any thoughts from parents. We raised over £1000 which is fantastic, thank you. Can I also thank everyone who attended our nativity plays and Carols by Candlelight, the children did everyone proud, the singing by parents was very good as well!
LOST PROPERTY
We have a constant problem with lost property in school. This is very frustrating for both staff and parents. Every week we have a number of lost coats etc. This is made even more difficult when items are unnamed. Named items do tend to get back to the children however, unnamed clothing is very difficult, especially when there are six or seven identical ,unnamed jumpers left in a classroom.
We have also had problems with named jumpers going missing,, it is very easy for children to pick up the wrong jumper and children have been known to take someone else's jumper home. Please can you check your child’s clothing the next time you wash it to make sure that they do not have one that belongs to someone else.
ON FRIDAY 15th of JANUARY after school, any lost property will be on display in the
library . After that date any uncollected items will be recycled.
SPARE CLOTHING
Due to the present poor weather conditions school is presently building up a set of spare clothing for children who arrive at school in wet clothing or get wet at playtime. If you have any clean spare socks, underwear, trousers and PE kit, which are in good condition and your children have grown out of, please can you donate them to school.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
Please can I remind parents that if your child cannot attend a club for any reason, could they make sure that Mrs Sells or the teacher running the club is informed. Staff keep a register of children attending and this saves people having to search for missing children or phone home.
