Here at Oakworth Primary School, Music is taught as part of the National Curriculum but we also provide the opportunity for the children to learn musical instruments and take part in extra-curricular activities.

A team of peripatetic staff offer lessons for the following instruments:

At present we have over 30 pupils learning instruments. These children are encouraged to share their music making by playing in lessons, assemblies and concerts.
In school we have 2 choirs. The choirs met every week to learn new songs and enjoy singing. We have represented our school in the Bradfords' School Prom at St Georges Hall, Bradford the Musical, Festivals and at local community venues. It has been exciting to sing with other schools, professional singers and musicians. We provide opportunities to sing at various school functions throughout the school year.
Music plays a huge part in school productions. Recent productions include:
"Oliver", "Alice in Wonderland", various Christmas presentations and of course our traditional Leavers Cabaret!

We received funding from the "Friends of Oakworth" to purchase a set of Samba instruments. Half termly, children from different year groups can join a lunchtime club to explore this exciting way of playing percussion.

Children and their Music
Some children thought it a good idea to write about their own views; the following clips are what the children wrote concerning Music and Instrumental lessons at the school.
Instrumental lessons
On a different day of the week a teacher comes to teach various instruments. On a Monday a teacher comes to teach keyboard, on a Thursday they teach woodwind. On Friday they teach guitar. I play the clarinet at 2 o'clock on a Thursday. I like this because it is fun and have very friendly teachers. I started in September and didn't know how to play the clarinet. Now I can play the clarinet and read music. I can now play to all the school.
School Choir
We go to choir on Wednesdays and sometimes on Fridays. I like going to choir because we learn new songs. We have learnt some songs called "Times must be changing", "Roller ghoster" and "New song". We really like the new song because it sounds like a pop song. "Roller ghoster" sounds scary and "Times must be changing" is funny.
Musical Times
Oakworth Primary is full of all sorts of different music, so we have a music assembly. We let our choir sing songs. Then the instrumentalists play their instruments. Parents, Grandparents, Brothers and Sisters all come to watch our amazing but mini show!
Big Sing
The Big sing is where lots of people get together at a big place like St Georges hall and that is where we were early this year. You need to have a brilliant voice to sing there. We were watched by over a thousand people which made us all very nervous but we loved it very much.

Please remember to watch this space for an update!
